Global Warming: Earth's Main Threat Volume II

In the previous section, described three facts that become a major threat to the earth that is melting of ice in the north poles and south poles, rising of sea surface levels and climate change/the weather gets extreme. At this time there are three other facts that could also threaten the earth’s planet. These facts include:
1. Increasingly heat wave
Often the heat is felt on the earth so great. The sun seemed to sting harder. For some people who have been accustomed to living beneath burning hot of the sun or contact with the sun such as farmers, construction laborers, and marketing of company, burning hot not so minded.

However, for others such as students and office people are not familiar with direct sun exposure, often complain about the heat that is felt when outside. Indeed, now geothermal heat is different than several years ago. This is a fact shown by global warming.

In 2003, South Europe hit by a devastating heat wave that resulted in thousands of deaths. Most victims came from France. Other European countries such as Italy, Portugal, and Spain are also not discharged from the brunt of the heat wave. Besides thousands of soul have been lost, the effects of heat waves is drought and crop failure.

Meanwhile, in 2007 the United States also get heat wave’s awful. At that time, the average temperature that is felt in the United States reached above 40 degrees Celsius, the highest temperature of 53 degrees Celsius in the California’s region. The impact caused by heat waves, among others fall of victim dies, the death of hundreds of fish and livestock, forest burning, and destruction of agricultural produce.

2. The melting of glaciers
Currently the world's glaciers are melting. Just look at the glaciers of Whitechuck are melting up to 1.9 kilometers in 2006. The melting of glaciers gives influence on the earth. Besides to the availability of clean water threatened of being lost, the melting of glaciers contributed to an increase in sea surface levels. 

3. The melting of permafrost in Noyabrsk, Siberia
Siberia has a muddy pool area is frozen by permafrost. There are researchers who claim that 1 million kilometers persegi permafrost are thawing. This phenomenon occurred in 2005. Other studies have noted the speed of the process of methane that release into the air up to 5 times faster. This is due to melting of permafrost in Siberia. Keep in mind, Noyabrsk containing more than 70 billion tonnes of frozen methane. Methane is a greenhouse gas which 23 times worse than carbondioxide.

Green Campus: Evocative Awareness of Academics To the Environment

Today, the issue of environmental damage towards the climax. The crisis of the green area so much the evident in front of the eye. The number of skyscrapers in urban and changing of land for office buildings, shop, and the block of house reduces the quantity of green area. Parks and comfortable shelter increasingly difficult to find. Rice fields became narrower.

Awareness of the importance of the environment is still underestimated by some people. The phenomenon of the above should get serious attention from various parties, especially the university as a producer scholars, humans who are educated. Universities should interpret this discourse well. Real action and fast at least needs to be realized. The university should respond this issues through green action, conservation programs, or other program which give benefit to the environment.

Why should be done by the university? First, the university as a pillar of the implementation of an education. Level of high education at university level. Second, education is still regarded as a strategic agency that teaches the concepts and sciences, including environmental. On the shoulders of education, the concepts/ideas about the environment can be learned and plunged so that the issue of environmental damage can be conquered immediately. Third, as mentioned in advance that the output of higher education in the form of educated people/scholars who participate in the worldwide development and contribute in policymaking one day.

Unfortunately, the university seemed oblivious. Most universities compete to pursue the reputation of the institution. Even some university intends to go international, pursue the title of world class university, become an excellent university that able to compete with foreign universities. Indeed, it is not wrong. On the other side, there are many universities that attract as many as possible students. Together with increasing of students quantity, the needs of students also increase while capacity has exceeded quota limits. That is, reluctantly the university must provide additional facilities in the form of building classes, practices places, and laboratories. This is certainly an impact on the construction of buildings that would destroy the environment later.

Campus as a place to produce candidates for intellectuals should also promote green programs, programs oriented environment. Proper awareness of the environment is built to cope with environmental degradation. Construction of campus facilities should be accompanied by the construction of a park or planting shade trees. Thus, the issue of environmental damage can be conquered properly by academics.

Global Warming: Earth's Main Threat

How might global warming threatens life on earth? When carbon dioxide from the earth's surface continues to be released into the atmosphere through the burning of fossil fuels. When thousands of hectares of forests were damaged by fire or illegal logging, so the plants that died in it releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. At the same time, a "time bomb" began working to destroy the planet.

Here are the facts that may be a threat to the planet earth where we stand:
1. Melting of ice in north poles and south poles
Global warming is a direct impact on the melting of ice in the polar north and south poles. Ice melting in Greenland has almost reached 19 million tons. Even a climate expert NASA (National Aeronautics and Space United States) made a startling prediction. Almost all the ice in north poles will disappear in late of summer 2012. Just imagine, if the earth is no longer covered with ice so the impact will be felt at all. Earth will become so hot to be occupied. 

2. The increase in sea surface level
Melting of ice at the north pole and south pole effect on sea levels. Sea level will rise. This can impact on the lowlands. Impact can be up to reduce the land area even drown.

3. Climate change or the weather gets extreme
NASA states that global warming resulting in climate change or the weather gets extreme. Over the past two years, rainfall is felt almost every day. There was hardly any dry season lately. In fact, in previous years the sun so stinging. The season seemed to have undergone a shift in time. Between rainy and dry season no longer can be predicted well. This resulted in losses for farmers, field farmers and salt farmers. Farmers' fields can not determine the planting season properly. Similarly, salt farmers are not able to determine the making time of salt due to the relentless rain shower.
The emergence of the storm is another phenomenon of global warming. Recently the United States hit by tornadoes hurricanes. Some time ago, China and Japan are also get the same phenomenon, that are the snow storms and hurricanes. Indonesia did not escape the phenomenon of strong winds.

The Cause of Global Warming

Global warming is a global issue which is still interesting to be discussed today. Consciously or not, lately the weather becomes erratic, sometimes very hot and sometimes very heavy rain. Now the season is not clear. Not only that, natural disaster become uncontrollable. And natural phenomena also becoming emerging. The issue of environmental degradation, air pollution, flooding, wind putting pickaxe, storms tornadoes, earthquakes, gas blast to erratic rainfall that has the world community aware that nature is no longer friendly with humans. These signs of nature that shows that earth's getting old, increasingly problematic, and result in damage.

Research conducted by experts showed that the heat of the earth is related with greenhouse gases generated by human activity. Several types of greenhouse gases directly responsible for warming the planet. How do greenhouse gases affect the earth? Most of the greenhouse gases produced by motor vehicles, factories, farms, and power generation. Withdrawn if the red yarn, then the man who to be the cause of all this. Human give largest contributions to the creation of greenhouse gases. Human activity has caused the earth to heat.

Earth's atmosphere consists of various gases with different functions. Gas group which keeps the temperature of earth's surface to keep warm is known by the term "greenhouse gases". So called because these gases in earth's atmosphere is similar to the workings of the greenhouse that serves to hold the hot sun in order to the temperature inside the greenhouse to keep warm. This resulted the plants can grow well because obtaining sufficient radiation from the sun.

Basically, the greenhouse gas is needed to maintain life on earth. Without greenhouse gases, the earth was too cold for human life. This is due to the absence of layers that isolate of the sun's heat. Know! Mars has no greenhouse gases, air temperature is -320 C.

The gases that cause global warming today is carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) which comes from agriculture and animal husbandry, nitrogen oxide (NO) derived from fertilizer and gases used in refrigerators and air conditioners (Chlorofluorocarbons/CFC). The destruction of forests also contributed. Now many forests that have been damaged by illegal logging and fires. Forest are no longer performs its function well as a store of CO2. In these circumstances, the forest is consist of dead plant releases CO2 into the atmosphere.
